The Mystery of Brittany Renee Williams

image

Born in Richmond, VA in March of 1993, Brittany Renee Williams had a difficult start. Her mother, Rose Marie Thompson, was diagnosed with AIDS while pregnant with Brittany, and passed the virus to her unborn baby girl.

Burdened with an illness that has no cure, both mother and daughter struggled; little Brittany bounced from foster home to foster home as Thomson tried, unsuccessfully, to get her life together.

In 1996, Rose Marie, close to death, gave guardianship of 3 year-old Brittany to Kim Parker. Parker was the founder of Rainbow Kids Inc., a charity that provided long-term care for children with AIDS. The charity is no longer in existence.

By all accounts, Kim Parker cared for little Brittany until sometime in 2000. In August of that year, Brittany was seen by a doctor. That same summer, Kim approached Brittany’s half-sister, an adult, and asked if she could take the child in and care for her. The older sister declined, as she was unable to provide the extensive medical treatment Brittany required. Parker then stated she would give the child to Linda Hodges and Kathie Evans, two Rainbow Kids Inc. volunteers.

No one has seen Brittany Williams since.

Sometime in 2003, authorities realized that Brittany had not been accounted for in over two years, despite the fact that Parker had been cashing the baby girl’s benefit check every month- using the money to renovate her house. Kim Parker told authorities that Brittany was in California with her charity’s ex-volunteers, Hodges and Evans.

She was not able to provide an address for the women.

Parker was soon placed under arrest, jailed for about three weeks for contempt of court, refusing to tell authorities where the child could be found.

All told, Ms. Parker accepted over $16,000 from government and charity organizations after Brittany disappeared, all under the pretense of caring for the sick little girl.

Police eventually located Linda Hodges and Kathy Evans, who were able to confirm what many had already feared: they had never had Brittany in their care, though both Hodges and a neighbor stated they had reported Kim Parker to Social Services on multiple occasions.

At this time, it is unclear why no action was ever taken.

Finally, in 2003, Kim was charged with more than 73 felonies- but was never charged in Brittany’s disappearance. The bulk of the charges were fraud-related, and Parker ultimately pleaded guilty in federal court to counts of mail and wire fraud. She was sentenced to eight years in prison, and received an additional two years for state charges of Medicaid fraud.

Later that year, authorities thoroughly searched Kim’s home, and drained her septic system in hopes of finding any evidence of what may have happened to little Brittany Williams. Nothing was ever found.

A possible link was even explored between the body of a decapitated little girl, found in 2001 in Kansas City, and Brittany Williams. It was later determined, in 2005 that the little girl, dubbed Precious Doe, was actually another missing child named Erica Michelle Maria Green. At three years old when she disappeared, Erica, like Brittany, had never been reported missing.

To-date, Brittany Renee Williams has never been located. No one has been charged in her disappearance, and due to her medical condition, it is not likely that she has survived all these years. Police confirm that after Kim Parker, no one ever used Brittany’s social security number or Medicaid benefits.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Henrico County Police Department.

Whitney Houston- Death of “The Voice”

Whitney Houston, 48, has died.

I refuse to remember her as she was in her final years. Instead, I mourn the loss of one of the most powerful vocal influences ever known. She broke down barriers without even trying.

As someone recently said, “Heaven’s choir just gained another voice”.

RIP Ms. Whitney.

Romney- Curse of the Moderate Mormon

I was initially concerned when, last Tuesday, we saw Rick Santorum kick Mitt Romney’s patootie in the caucuses in CO and MN, as well as Missouri’s Primary.

I thought, “Really? My state prefers SANTORUM?!”

Later, however, I started to laugh.

Truly, Romney’s defeat in these three states is both hilarious and, much as I can’t stand Santorum, positive.

Well, positive if you’re a Progressive, anyway.

Most political pundits- regardless of party affiliation- agree on one thing:

The only man in the GOP race who has what it takes to give Obama any sort of challenge is Mitt Romney. Santorum cannot beat Obama, nor can Gingrich. These two men may be the darlings of the ultra-right, but they definitely do not speak for the masses- even the conservative mass.

Most Republicans, believe it or not, don’t want to outlaw birth control, a la Rick Santorum.

Similarly, most PEOPLE, in general, cannot stand Newt Gingrich. Not to be crass, but no, we have not forgotten his rabid attack on Bill Clinton, managed between sessions of screwing his mistress in the backseat of his car.

It’s bad enough to be a jackass- we’ve come to expect that from our politicians- but a hypocritical jackass?

Now that’s just too much!

This leaves Romney (because as entertaining and cute as little Ron Paul may be, he ain’t winning the nomination for anything, let alone President of the United States).

Romney has a lot of challenges. He’s stinkin’ rich, he has an avid dislike of the poor… but his biggest challenge stems from the fact that he is, in fact, a moderate (oh, the horror!).

As governor of Massachusetts, Romney supported various pro-choice bills, and of course, we can’t forget Romneycare (I know it’s old news, and quite tired, but I still have to say it- Romney was for Universal Healthcare before he was against it).

Oh- and let’s not forget, because it’s really important to some- Romney is a devil worshipper Mormon. What’s a political race if it doesn’t include a little bigotry, right?

I digress.

While Romney’s past as governor may put sane middle-of-the-road folks at ease, it has become a huge thorn in the side of the GOP. Rather than rally behind the guy, understanding that he’s the best shot they have at winning the White House, the party has become splintered, full of factions of varying-degrees of conservatism. Romney has found himself in a position where he must fight liberals and conservatives. His middle-of-the-road past, something most voters prefer in a politician, has become one of his biggest challenges.

It’s reminiscent of the Democrats’ woes, during the epic battle of the Barack Obama vs. Hilary Clinton days of yore. The difference is, during the Obama/Clinton showdown, there were only two participants in the ring.

This race seems a bit more crowded, no?

Regardless, the Republican Party needs to come to an understanding:

Mitt Romney is their guy.

Period.

Allowing silly distractions like Gingrich and Santorum into the equation does nothing but sidetrack the Republicans from their only chance at winning this thing. If the fringe keeps feeding the egos of Gingrich and Santorum, they will make Obama’s run for re-election a simple one- and a slam-dunk victory.

After all these months, after all the millions paid to PACs and Super-PACs, new suits, speechwriters…

… One would think the GOP would have gotten a little more serious by now.

The fact that by February, in an election year, states are still reporting Rick Santorum as the front-runner in anything truly is…

… Well, hilarious.

On second thought, keep up the good work!
